I’m excited to share that Wing and Walmart are working together to launch drone delivery in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in the coming weeks. We’ll start with two Walmart Supercenters, so residents can order a range of products, including quick meals, groceries, household essentials, and over-the-counter medicines.

This is a major milestone for Wing, as we continue down our path toward building capabilities to support some of the most significant delivery operations in the world. Our technology is designed to complement existing delivery offerings, making overall systems more efficient and able to meet real customer needs.

For more on our work together, check out the announcement in Walmart’s newsroom.

What does all this mean for the communities we serve in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex?

First and foremost – it means a whole lot more of you are going to be able to access the service. The number one question we get from folks around the Dallas area is when drone delivery will be available at THEIR homes. In the short term, this news means there will be two additional Wing service areas in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro.

We’ll start at the Walmart Supercenter at 8555 Preston Road in Frisco, adding a large section of central and eastern Frisco to the service area (our most-requested expansion area since we first launched in western Frisco in 2021).

Want to know if your house is eligible?

  1. Download the Wing Drone Delivery App from the App Store or on Google Play.
  2. Create an account and enter your address.
  3. If you see a “Coming Soon” message, that means you’re ready to order on Day 1. Just check back in the coming weeks once we launch the service.
  4. If the app says you’re not eligible but you live in the right area, don’t worry! We’ll be adding additional neighborhoods soon. Just check back in a few weeks.

A second nearby Walmart store is set to launch before the end of the calendar year.

It will be available to homes within approximately 6 miles of the stores. But if you’re looking for a pilot with a joystick, you’re not going to find that. Our drones are highly automated! Wing’s technology allows operators to oversee the system from a remote location, which means pilots won’t need to be stationed at stores or customer homes. The aircraft essentially fly themselves, so each operator is approved to safely oversee many drones at the same time.

We've heard from many of you that we need to provide evening hours, and so I'm happy to share that our new hours of operations will be 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.  We’re also extending to 6 days a week (open every day except Wednesdays).

Last but certainly not least, you will be able to get your deliveries in under 30 minutes. We're working with Walmart to offer everything from full lunches to quick afternoon snacks or over-the-counter medicines.

Wing’s drones are reliable, fast, and safe. They cruise at 65 mph and use a tether to gently deliver even delicate items – like a carton of eggs – to very precise locations outside customer homes in urban and suburban environments.

We can’t wait to get started. Especially if you live in the north Dallas suburbs, make sure you’ve got the Wing app installed and start thinking about your first order! Don’t forget to tag us on social and share your experience with #dronedelivery.

*Wing and Walmart have started offering service in Frisco, Texas on September 14th, 2023 and Lewisville, Texas on December 18, 2023. Drone delivery service is available 7 days a week, 9-5pm (updated December 18, 2023).
