International Drone Day

Happy International Drone Day!

International Drone Day is a relatively young holiday, but it reflects a world of progress. One similarity between the early days of traditional aviation and the current state of drone technology is the rapid pace of innovation. In the early 1900s, there was a flurry of activity as inventors worked to develop better and better airplanes. Today, we are seeing a similar level of activity in the field of drone technology. New drones are being developed all the time, with each one offering new features and capabilities.

Drone technology has advanced significantly since the first “International Drone Day” was first celebrated in 2015. Today, drones are used for a wide variety of purposes, including photography, videography, package delivery, and even search and rescue. Wing was conducting some of its first delivery tests in 2015, and now we deliver in major metro areas on three continents.

Drones are also becoming increasingly popular for recreational use. Hobbyists enjoy flying drones for fun, and there are a growing number of clubs and drone racing competitions.

International Drone Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the amazing things that drones can do. Here are a few of the ways that drones are making the world a better place:
  • Drones search for missing people and provide disaster relief.
  • Drones can deliver packages faster and more sustainably than traditional delivery methods while taking traffic off the roads.
  • Drones monitor crops and livestock, helping farmers to improve their yields and prevent crop diseases.
  • Drones capture stunning aerial footage, which can be used for a variety of things such as film making, marketing, and a variety of aerial inspection purposes.
At Wing, we’ve been harnessing the power of delivery drones to complement existing methods of last mile delivery. Our drones weigh about 10 pounds, can travel 60+ mph, and deliver a package to your door within minutes after placing the order. To date, we’ve carried out hundreds of thousands of deliveries directly to homes and businesses in the United States, Australia, Finland and Ireland.

Innovation in both the commercial and recreational drone space continues to accelerate. So let's raise a glass to drones on International Drone Day!

Cheers!
