Wing and Mirvac team up to transform Australian urban retail spaces into drone delivery hubs
At Wing, we spend a lot of time thinking about how to move packages through the sky. But for our drone delivery network to have the greatest impact, our ground game has to be on point too.
We’re teaming up with Mirvac, one of Australia’s leading property groups, to transform underutilised retail real estate into on-demand drone delivery fulfilment hubs. These hubs will make it possible for more people to access the benefits of drone delivery, allowing us to expand our reach into new neighbourhoods and expand delivery options for retail customers. To begin, we’re transforming the rooftop car park of Mirvac’s Orion Springfield Central in the City of Ipswich into a drone delivery hub from which we’ll run a pilot program next year. Over the next few years, Wing and Mirvac will work together to find other Mirvac-operated retail spaces from which similar hubs can be created.
Drone delivery is fast, affordable, safe, and convenient for customers, efficient for businesses, and environmentally friendly for communities. And the more delivery facilities – like the ones Mirvac is providing – that Wing’s drones are able to deliver from, the more these benefits are realised. In our operations today, we've shown the tremendous potential for drone delivery to become a part of Australians’ daily routines. And the demand continues to grow: in 2021, Wing made more than 100,000 deliveries to customers in Australia, and in the first three quarters of 2022, Wing already exceeded 120,000 deliveries in Australia.
Integrating drone delivery into daily life isn’t just an added convenience that gives people more time back in their busy lives. It can reduce congestion, accidents, and greenhouse gas emissions, which is a future Wing is excited to help create. Australia is leading the way towards that future, and we’re excited to continue our momentum with Mirvac as a partner.
